The Challenge | Modernize without interrupting services

The digitization of critical infrastructure requires robust, secure, and scalable communications networks. In this case, a highway network with years of service was facing structural and technological limitations that compromised its growth and safety

The system operated on a consolidated physical infrastructure, but with obsolete equipment and poor traffic visibility. The lack of segmentation made it difficult to detect threats and increased the risk of potential intrusions. In addition, scalability was limited, which prevented the incorporation of new services and devices.

The big challenge was to modernize the network without rebuilding it, preserving the existing fiber optics and avoiding interruptions to essential services.

The solution | A secure and resilient network

To meet the challenge, Nologin designed a hybrid architecture that combined ruggedized Fortinet equipment with advanced security, management, and performance features, preserving the existing fiber and avoiding interruptions to critical services.

The old switches were replaced by next-generation firewalls (NGFW) with integrated switching, reducing operational complexity and strengthening network segmentation.

Among the main features deployed are:

  • Application-level traffic inspection and malware protection.
  • SD-WAN with IPsec, ensuring encrypted communications between nodes and data centers.
  • Integrated intrusion prevention (IPS) and antivirus.
  • Network Access Control (NAC) to limit unauthorized connections.
  • Centralized management with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer, providing complete visibility and real-time event analysis.
  • High availability (HA) and resilience, ensuring continuity in the event of incidents or updates.
