Nologin is celebrating its 25th anniversary!

What began in 2000 as a bold project by three partners from Sun Microsystems has grown into a well-established technology company with an international presence and a team that has grown alongside its achievements. Nologin is celebrating its 25th anniversary, looking back with pride and looking forward to the future with ambition.

From the outset, the Aragon-based company focused on technical specialization and customer proximity as its fundamental pillars. "At that time, Nologin did not have any staff physically based in Zaragoza, and the office was a small apartment-office with a couple of rooms on Avenida Madrid, shared with another company. From there, I clearly remember the sound of the on-call phone where I received SMS notifications from different customers day and night, and the first trip to Madrid to review some LDAPs from the Caser insurance company that were having performance issues," says Jorge Marco, Director of Operations with more than 18 years of experience at Nologin, practically since its inception.

In 2007, Nologin set up its offices in the World Trade Center in Zaragoza, and just three years later, in 2010, it crossed borders into Latin America with a strategic trip to Costa Rica to explore new business opportunities. Diego Marco (Datacenter), who joined Nologin just in time for the opening of the WTC offices in Zaragoza in 2007, recalls that “in those years, we worked on all projects, no matter how complicated, unstructured, or risky they might seem.” Among the projects Diego participated in, numerous installations for NetApp, the Togo project for TogoTelecom, and a curious project by his colleague Carlos Serón (Datacenter) in Mauritania stand out. For Carlos, with 18 years at Nologin under his belt, “the best projects were those in Latin America, because of the long trips involved, but every project, even the shortest ones, always leaves you with some memory or anecdote. One of the reasons we've been able to grow has been the work, sometimes hard, on large projects that have allowed us to expand steadily until the boom of recent years".

Continued growth led to another move in 2011, this time to the current headquarters, located in Zaragoza Expo Empresarial, and shortly thereafter, in 2013, came an important recognition: Nologin was awarded the Information Society Award: “Company of the Year".

The international commitment was reinforced in 2016 with the opening of Nologin USA, the US branch, which enabled projects with US clients to be managed directly. This expansion was consolidated in 2017 with a strong entry into the US market with the management of the SH130 toll lane.

Internally, Nologin underwent constant evolution, with an increase in the number of projects and employees. In 2018, the first expansion of the Expo offices took place, and in 2019, the cybersecurity area was officially created. Diversification continued in 2021 with the opening of new offices in Madrid and the creation of the NOW Systems division, dedicated to operational oceanography, which would later become an independent entity. This past year, 2024, Nologin carried out a second expansion of its offices, 500 meters more to house all its Identity, Cybersecurity, Datacenter, and Cloud teams, and took a strategic step forward with the opening of the Artificial Intelligence area, reinforcing its commitment to cutting-edge technologies..

25 years of applied technology: key projects and areas of expertise

Over the years, Nologin has constantly evolved to offer increasingly sophisticated technological services and solutions. Digital transformation has been the core of its activity, helping clients and organizations modernize their processes with scalable and efficient technological platforms.

“It has been steady, sustained growth over all these years, without any exorbitant pretensions, based purely on organic growth. We have grown steadily thanks to our best form of advertising, which is doing our job very well, maintaining the essence of the group that started out: highly technical profiles, passion for what we do, and treating our clients' problems as our own,” explains Jorge Marco.

Since its inception, it has specialized in the development of customized software, creating tailor-made solutions, such as MEM , its own identity manager, which has been implemented in several clients, improving centralized access and credential management. Likewise, a success story that reflects the capabilities of the Identity area is a project in the banking sector for the unification of digital identities on a common platform.

"There is one thing that has not changed since I joined in 2014: that Aragonese spirit of never giving up. There hasn't been a problem that Nologin hasn't been able to solve with honesty and courage. That's why customers call us to solve their problems," adds Beatriz Jiménez (Marketing), adding that she feels especially proud of the redesign of the MEM tool, both inside and out, in terms of aesthetics and graphics.

In the field of cybersecurity, Nologin has worked with major clients such as Cintra in the implementation of advanced security solutions, and AST in the integration of SIEM systems with QRadar for the protection of critical infrastructure.

In the area of Datacenter & Cloud, Nologin has designed and implemented hybrid and scalable architectures in environments such as Azure Cloud, contributing to improving the resilience and flexibility of the transport sector, collaborating with Ferrovial. He has also managed data center technology renewal projects for large clients, such as the migration and consolidation of physical infrastructures to modern storage and virtualization platforms, and Pure Storage actions at customer's site.

Álvaro González, who has been working at Datacenter for 12 years, says that "Nologin has managed to grow without losing its essence. You can tell there is experience and solidity, but we still have that agility where new ideas have their place and we never stop learning and innovating. That mix of professionalism, technical knowledge, people involvement and closeness, and customer satisfaction with a job well done makes all the difference. He also values the importance of small details, which are what really make the difference and guarantee excellence".

Over the years, Nologin has also been recognized for its quality and management, with certifications such as ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), ISO 27001 (Information Security Management), ISO 20000-1 (IT Service Management), which endorse its commitment to excellence, and ENS (National Security Scheme), among others. On a social level, it has been recognized with the RSA+ seal of Aragon for its corporate social responsibility.

“Nologin is not only the sum of all its talents, but there is also an added bonus due to the way people interact, which is not easy to find elsewhere,” says Carlos Serón. For his part, Jorge Marco believes that what makes Nologin different is "on the one hand, having technical experts on the property helps a lot in ensuring that decision-making at all levels has a very strong technical focus, and that specialization and technical experience are highly valued internally. And, on the other hand, the company's approach is very close to the employee. This highly horizontal working model also gives us the flexibility and agility to deal with the changes that have taken place in technology over the last 25 years, which are not insignificant.".

Looking toward the future

With 25 years of experience and more than 500 projects under its belt, Nologin is looking to the future with a clear vision: to remain an independent company with high technical value, combining innovation, talent, and social commitment. Advanced cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, automation, and cloud environments will be the cornerstones of its growth, without losing sight of the most important value: people.

Nologin has the experience of the past, the energy of the present, and the vision of the future, and is ready to face the next 25 years with the same enthusiasm with which it began.

“Certainly bigger, with new areas emerging and more teams in each area, allowing us to further consolidate our excellent technical reputation as a consultant and managed services provider. And equally, and more importantly, maintaining the same solid, people-centered corporate culture,” concludes Jorge Marco. In line with Jorge's words, Álvaro González adds that "in a few years, technology will have advanced and changed, but Nologin will continue to be at the forefront. Knowing its founders, it will have new business areas that will allow it to remain relevant in all its sectors. In addition, I would like it to continue maintaining its essence, for the company to continue investing in the ongoing training of its employees, for it to continue to embrace even bigger new projects, and for it to continue to take on the big tech companies, perhaps by being the visible leader rather than walking alongside them.".
